Live Facial Recognition Deployment - Bolton Town Centre |
||
|
On Wednesday and Thursday this week, Live Facial Recognition (LFR) was used in Bolton Town Centre. You may have seen an increased presence as the Town Centre Neighbourhood Team deployed alongside our specialist LFR colleagues.
Two people have been charged with court offences following the utilisation of Live Facial Recognition in Bolton Town Centre on Thursday 30th October.
The two charges follow Greater Manchester Polices first arrests thanks to the technology. Three arrests were made in the town centre on Thursday, one of which resulted in no further action after speaking with the victim.
Inspector Jon Middleton from our Live Facial Recognition Unit said: “This technology allows us to be more proactive in identifying and locating individuals who are wanted or missing, while also ensuring that our officers can respond swiftly and appropriately. “Deployments like this one in Bolton shows how facial recognition can support in policing, whilst providing an active presence in the community to ensure trust and confidence in the Force.”
